The hiking trail was initiated by Switzerland Tourism ST to mark the 2019 summer campaign, which was entirely devoted to hiking in Switzerland. The themed trail was designed by ST in cooperation with the National Park.

ST took the gala opening ceremony as an opportunity to stimulate interest in Switzerland’s diverse hiking region among the 20 media professionals and, in particular, tour operators. These contacts in key account management gave rise to new offerings in Switzerland and resulted in another record year for hotel overnight stays from Singapore (+ 18.1 %).

Information panels positioned along the route of the “Swiss Singapore Friendship Hike” explain the friendship between the two countries and the values shared by both sides. The information panels show which animal and plant species can be found in each country, while at the same time raising awareness of how to treat nature with respect. Hikers can learn more about the Seraya tree, which is native to Singapore, and about Swiss pines, for example: both types of tree grow to over 60 metres in height.
