Many SWISS passengers are international transit travellers catching a connecting flight from a Swiss airport to their final destination. They don’t even leave the airport – let alone discover Switzerland as a holiday destination. As of 2018, existing and potential transit passengers of this kind are the target group for “Stopover Switzerland”: a selection of eight packages including everything from accommodation to a public transport ticket and local holiday tips. The stopover packages are available both for individual destinations (Interlaken, Lucerne, Montreux, Zermatt and Zurich) and for short round trips.

Switzerland, with its wide variety of experiences within a short distance and well-connected public transport system, is ideally suited to stopover excursions. The chance to discover an entire country during a transit stop represents a unique experience for international travellers.

The cooperation between Switzerland Tourism ST, SWISS, Switzerland Travel Centre and Swiss Travel System is ground-breaking. Convenience and short breaks have been clearly identified as international travel trends in studies carried out by project partners.

Following an initial soft launch in India, Singapore and the USA in late summer 2018, “Stopover Switzerland” has been available to book at all SWISS intercontinental destinations since November 2018. A first review will be carried out in 2019.
