The department of Switzerland Tourism ST specialising in meetings and incentives influenced 824 meetings in 2018, with a tourism turnover of CHF 74.8 million. 35% is attributable to meetings and incentive travel from Asia. This generated around 82,700 overnight hotel stays.

One of the factors contributing to the strong result was the targeted support provided to key account customers with branches worldwide. One such customer is insurance company AIA, which has a total of 18 branches in the Asia-Pacific region. SCIB had previously supported the organisation of a diverse incentive trip for the Singapore branch back in 2015. In 2018, it was the turn of the insurance company’s Thai employees to be rewarded.

Gala dinner at the Jucker Farm

A total of 1,880 employees from AIA’s Thailand branch travelled in October 2018 to visit Zurich Region, the Rhine Falls, the Titlis and Lucerne. The highlight was a gala dinner at the Jucker Farm. The best of the employees then continued to Lausanne (stopping off at Bern, Interlaken, Gstaad and Montreux along the way), where they attended a memorial ceremony in honour of Rama V, a former king of Thailand. The trip generated a total of 5,640 overnight hotel stays in Zurich and 1,480 in Lausanne.

Once again, the insurance company was full of praise, with managers from AIA saying the trip had been one of the very best and most stress-free. They added that the seamless organisation and personal support from both SCIB and the regional partners had been crucial during the many years of cooperation. The good news is that this will continue in 2019, when incentive trips are planned for AIA employees from Indonesia and Malaysia.
